I think I may be on to something….
In the past I have successfully worked with clients using NLP to work with a process called parts integration.
It’s a way of removing mental blocks that sometimes prevent us from taking action.
NLP professionals talk about us having many parts that make us a whole and sometimes these parts conflict.
If you consider the analogy of a car. If a part of us has a desire to to.something whilst another is hesitant it could be said that we are trying to drive forward with one hand pulling on the handbrake and a foot on the gas pedal… the result being spinning the wheels..
In sales many of us back away from having the hard conversations that sometimes need to be had in our encounters because part of us is repelled by confrontation.
The part of us that needs to step forward for the benefit of the prospect and ourselves is overshadowed but the part that wants to back down.
Over time many successful reps just learn the thick skin to ‘ go there ‘ and override the mental and bodily desire to retreat … and there are a few lucky ones who right from the outset don’t have the inner conflict that most of us do .
Parts integration means communicating with your subconscious and negotiating with that part of us that is in conflict and helping it understand that it’s not helping us as a whole even though in a certain sense it is trying to protect.
Recently I have been working with a small group of closers. We have been experimenting with parts integration as well as using other NLP techniques to enhance confidence to improve performance on calls, other sales activities and even in everyday life.
The results I have seen myself are marked… a significant raise in self confidence and the students have also commented on similar improvements …
I am considering running a beta training where the outcome would be to make closers ethically more tenacious and confident in sales encounters…
